This review is from: GV-CA220 Surveillance/Network Camera – Color, Monochrome – M12-mount (Camera)

Got 3 of them for my home … they’re meant for indoor but I’ve wrapped them in transparent tape and placed them under a roof area outdoors. They cover about 10 meters of distance. Tested at first the Linux based ZoneMinder software package for a while then decided that I was loosing on features as ZoneMinder is best suited for some other manufacturers. Ended up using the GV-NVR software package that came on the CD, if I’m not mistaken it was in the paid section of the CD but it works without paying. FYI the CD is a jungle of SW that is not easy to sort out and figure out, however the GV-NVR was straight forward and does all I need such as live monitoring and setting up motion detection regions and recording on motion detection events and intelligent playback with nicely featured database. As a server I put a PC together with Windows 7 that was about 2-3 years old with 1TB hard drive and am getting about 2 months or more of recording for 3 cams, have not reached the limit yet so it might be much more. The camera offers a built in motion detection and motion area zoning with event notification by email or FTP, I’m not using those as I’ve put all the burden on my server with the GV-NVR software, i.e. if I was to buy this again I might get the model without motion detection and built in LED but watch out as GeoVision might not offer POE (Power Over Ethernet) with the lesser models as this is something I really like and need as I only require one cable to each cam. Next time I might even go for the 1.3 Megapixel cam as the 2 Megapixel I got now is great but 1.3 would also do the job for my requirements and area covered.
