Very pleasantly surprised at how well this camera works for the price. It has features that are typically twice as much if not more. I have tried three other cameras before finding this one and I will get two more as they suit my purpose and are extremely reasonably priced. Had a duh moment, removed the blue gasket, tightening the ring locks the camera in place now. Two more cameras on the way.

This camera is the Evertech EV-CDM372SN V.7; there is no included transformer or cables other than the BMC and power cable coming out of the camera ball. But there were 4 screws with sheetrock plugs included. There is also an instruction sheet that takes a little understand of broken English and professional camera settings to understand fully. Amazingly it is more than you typically find with top manufactures cameras. It is essentially a steel ball with a three section wrap around mounting housing. The blue ring is a plastic/rubber [?] washer; above it is the mounting ring which has 4 deep well mounting points. The notched sections screws into the upper mounting ring. The lower collar slides 360 hanging in the notched section and cradles the ball [the camera]. The mounting ring allows you to cut up to a 3 inch hole; hole to easily hook up wiring and still have something to mount too. I am using this on a Swann D-1 level DVR.

I am a licensed limited energy electrician and have setup CCTV systems by Honeywell, Bosch, Pelco, Ademco and Samsung along with a few no name brand cameras that were exceptional but certainly much more expensive. This design is very new to me but I can see a where these could be used very nicely. My purpose is to cover my carport, front door and breeze way. The whole area has a finished ceiling covering the rafters creating an attic crawl space. Lots of bright light during the day out side of the carport. It is washed out in the bright areas at some times.

The picture quality is excellent day or night, it retains the daylight mode longer than any of the other cameras I have tried so far. Depth of field is better too. The “On Screen Display” [OSD] is a bit tricky to use as the controls are on the camera hook up cables on the camera [probably some extra wires in there as those with the feature at the DVR need two more wires from the camera to the DVR. So when I first opened it I hooked it up to check that it works and set the BLC [Back Light Compensation] to on. Day or night the camera automatically adjusts so that close up bodies are properly exposed and visible. No washed out faces due to overpowering IR LEDs or overpowering white background light creating black ghosts. I have a feeling this due more to the auto gain control though. It would be nicer if I could control it at the DVR to be able to see how the different settings look on the DVR under different conditions. This is the first camera that the settings in the Swann DVR seem to have usable affect on picture quality. The daylight color is very near what your eyes see.

Being able to adjust the lens from 2.8 [wide angle] to 12 mm makes this a very versatile camera and takes away the guess work of what lens size is needed for amateur do it yourselfers. The problem is being able to adjust the focal length and then focus it, you have to have a screen/power supply where your camera is mounted to do this easily. The adjustment screws are on the ball and only need a small regular screw driver blade to adjust each. This one [all three now] came preset for wide angle which was perfect for me. You can load a laptop with the viewing software and use it wifi to make camera adjustments more easily.

Edit 7/22/13: Changed some material information about locking the camera in place; now rate it 5 stars – best in price and features available.
