Orion SteadyPix Deluxe Camera Mount

While observing the Moon or planets, have you ever thought to yourself: ‘If only I had a way to connect my digital camera to my telescope’? Now you can! The ingenious, easy-to-use Orion SteadyPix Deluxe Camera Mount provides an amazingly affordable way for anyone to begin capturing impressive images of the Moon, planets, Sun (with a proper filter), and terrestrial objects. The SteadyPix Deluxe securely couples just about any point-and-shoot digital camera, SLR, or DSLR camera to a telescope eyepiece, and allows adjustment to achieve precise focus and centering for afocal photography. The rubber-lined eyepiece clamp helps prevent any marring or damge to your eyepieces. This versatile mount offers three dimensions of adjustment (horizontal, vertical, and depth) to accomodate almost any camera size or lens position. You can even rotate the camera away from the eyepiece for visual access, without having to remove the SteadyPix Deluxe mount. The SteadyPix Deluxe has been improved to fit all 1.25″ eyepieces and most 2″ eyepieces (up to 61mm in diameter). It also features a sturdier all-metal design for increased rigidity and performance. So if you’ve got the desire to dabble in astro-imaging, the SteadyPicx Deluxe Camera Mount is a great way to get started! Weighs just 10 oz. and includes a one-year limited warranty.

It is possible to capture nice pictures of the moon by just holding your point and shoot camera up to a telescope eyepiece. It is not easy though. It takes a lot of work, time, patience, and luck. I wanted more.

I looked around for a camera bracket. This was the best one I could find. It is versatile and sturdy. It is not perfect, however. It still takes a bit of practice to perfectly line the camera up with the lens.

I am glad that I purchased my bracket. I use it often with my wife’s small Nikon Coolpix. I am not sure it is enough, however. I may still make the jump and order a T ring adaptor that allows telescopes to be coupled with a DSLR camera.

    My recommendation:

If you use a compact digital camera, get the holder.
If you use a DSLR, use an adapter to couple the scope and camera.

This product works fine for point and shoot cameras, but not for a dslr. I bought a dslr soon after I purchased this mount and the 18-55 lens needs 8″ of space between it and the eyepiece of telescope. The 55-250 lens needs much more space. You might be able to use a macro lens with it though. I ended up buying a telescope mount that mounts directly to the dslr camera body. That is the way to go with dslr, but this product is good for point and shoot. Well made.

This review is from: Orion SteadyPix Deluxe Camera Mount (Camera)

I use this device to attach a camera to my rifle scope and film while I shoot. Sure, you can no longer aim through the scope, you aim by looking at the camera’s display, but that is pretty cool in itself. If you have a bipod on your rifle, it is very easy. You can also use the mount for what it is intended: attaching it to a telescope and taking pictures of the stars, the planets and the moon. I am just having too much fun shooting with it.
